Jennifer Koen is the Project Manager for the SHM Foundation’s Project Khuluma. Jennifer is a qualified Research Psychologist, with extensive experience in HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment, with a specific focus on adolescents and youth. She joined the Foundation in 2013 with the launch of Project Khuluma, which aims to enhance access to psychosocial support for adolescents living with HIV/AIDS in South Africa using mobile technology. Her work on the Project has contributed to its successful growth to include adolescents from different parts of South Africa to where scaling-up is the next logical step. She is also instrumentally involved in the ongoing development of the Khuluma Peer Mentorship programme, which equips former support group participants to be part of the running of future groups.
Prior to joining the Foundation Jennifer worked in public health ethics, social and behavioural change communication to address HIV/AIDS among young South Africans, and in access to higher education. Jennifer believes strongly in the importance of access to mental healthcare for meeting global health targets and is passionate about work which contributes positively to society and makes a difference in people’s lives.
The SHM Foundation works globally to bring about positive social change through projects in the areas of learning and citizenship, health and the arts.
The Foundation was set up in 2008 by Professor Maurice Biriotti and Professor Henrietta Moore, who co-founded the strategy and insight consultancy SHM Productions, based in central London, in 1996.
